about

“Fall 2006, Freshman year of college. On a Friday night at then-Marymount College, I was left alone in my dorm unit, 356. I had no car at the time, my roommates with cars were gone for the night, and I was by myself with no where to go and all the energy in the world. When that happens, especially at that age, you do one of two things: one, do something stupid or two, you do something creative. I chose that night to be creative. One of two songs I recorded that night was over a 9th Wonder beat I found on Limewire and I called it ‘356;’ basically just describing my thoughts and circumstances for that exact evening.

Upon returning to Marymount last year, now Marymount California University, and surreally returning back to those same dorms to finally finish my undergraduate degree, the unique opportunity of recording a sequel to ‘365’ floated in the back of my head all school year. But the right inspiration for this particular track, musically or lyrically, didn’t hit me at all for months. That is until, about a week after graduation, and just two days before I were to move out of ‘334,’ the unit I lived at this time around (which was ironically next to 330, the unit I moved into later that first semester, where some of the first original H.F.P. songs were written and recorded), the inspiration finally arrived at my dorm like old times. Recorded on the very same Sennheiser dynamic mic ‘356’ was nearly 16 years ago.

This is a reflection and a thank you. Unbelievable we were able to start a new era for us in the exact same place it all started. #LongLiveTheMount.”

lyrics

What’s a dream deferred, to a lesson learned?

To the most perfect day that can occur?

To not mentioned at all to the underdog.

To line up all the odds and beat them all.

To go back to the energy source.

When a young Padawan was learning The Force.

Yeah, back to dorm room beats and academic rhymes.
Marty McFly, flux capacs, back in time.

Back to Coffee House, rockin’ Air Force 1s.

They thought a brotha was still 24 young.

A Black Mamba in The Last Dance like his Airness.

A decade plus lead this, then prepare this.

Back on the air, the sound waves hit the anchor.

K.M.C.U. Krew, man I gotta thank ya.

We made history, covered history.

And at the end of the day, that’s our legacy.

V.I.S.I.O.N.S. 2, though the lens, now making movies.

Another voice, another art, thank you Blue and Yumi.

My path quarterbacked by The Mayor and by Susie.

Thank you Boss for my job, kept the money groovy.

Bangin’ sound by Wayne, peace to Dr. A.

For the platform, the students always had a say.

Peace to O Leaders, peace to Student Life.

All the field trips, just to keep it hype.

Every moment to teach, like at Bruce’s Beach.

Every laugh, every dance, every time we feast.

Every day I was here, it felt so surreal.

I never have and never will lose the feel.

I thank you all for this moment to breathe.
For the clarity, for The Esprit.

In 31 bars, I saluted The Mount.

Bar 32, graduation, peace I’m out.
